Skeptics seem to rejoice with malice about increasing numbers of infections. This, while experts and virologists repeat like a mantra: Even vaccinated people can and will become infected. Your Covid-19 courses are milder. People should get vaccinated.
The overwhelming majority of the Swiss medical community does not seem to have any doubts about the benefits of the vaccination. According to the FMH medical association, around 91 percent of doctors in the country are vaccinated. Another four percent want to be vaccinated by the end of the year. Some of the remaining doctors do not need a vaccination because they had the disease.
The vaccination rate is highest among hospital doctors and somewhat lower among general practitioners. “We are glad that we now have clear figures on this,” said FMH spokeswoman Charlotte Schweizer “NZZ am Sonntag”. The question of the vaccination quota of doctors was “always in the room”.
Higher risk of infection
Doctors are particularly exposed to the pandemic. According to the study carried out by the opinion research institute GfS Bern, they were infected more often than the average. With an infection rate of 15 percent, their share is almost twice as high as that of the general population. “Doctors are exposed to a higher risk of infection,” says Schweizer, “but they can also be tested more often.”
In addition, the workload, stress and dissatisfaction of the respondents increased in the past year. However, it does not appear to be exactly proven how this could have anything to do with the pandemic. (kes)
