More than half of employees consider themselves exposed daily to at least one risk to their health, physical or mental, such as awkward postures or chemical agents, according to a vast survey published on Wednesday and carried out by a dozen prevention and health services. at work.

According to the survey of 163,814 employees and 48,718 companies, 52% of employees say they are at least exposed to a biomechanical factor, 32% to atypical hours and 29% to chemical agents. In detail, 44% of workers “consider that they have to endure awkward postures» and 27% complain about «handling and carrying heavy loads or people“. If this vision is shared by employers on certain risks (biomechanical factors – repetitive movements in particular – and night work), employees declare themselves to be more exposed to other risks than their employers declare. This particularly concernsultrasound, lighting difficulties, working in trenches and biological agents“.

More than a third of employees say they are concerned by “emotional demands”

These differences in perception can be explained by a lack of knowledge of certain exposures or by a difficulty in identifying them. Or it may be due to a difference in perception between hardship (employee side) and regulatory aspects (employer side)“, according to the survey. In addition, just over half of employees say they are exposed to at least one requirement related to their work. The most reported are:Having to rush to get the job done and dealing with frequent interruptions of tasks for an unscheduled one“.

More than a third of employees say they are concerned by “emotional demands“, notably “having to hide emotions or pretend to be in a good mood, dealing with difficult or aggressive people, or having to calm people down“. Among the positive indicators, 68% of employees can choose how to organize themselves to carry out the tasks required of them, 64% believe that their work allows them to develop professional skills. Finally, 65% of employees feel recognized by their work colleagues and almost half feel recognized by their superiors.
