Sébastien Lecornu receives this Thursday at the Hôtel de Brienne, Eric Trappier, the boss of Dassault Aviation. This is his first official meeting with the industrialist. The Minister of the Armed Forces, in the context of the war in Ukraine, is asking defense companies to speed up production rates.

Sébastien Lecornu asks for armaments that are available more quickly and less expensively, war economy obliges. Last week, the Minister of the Armed Forces asked the boss of Nexter, the French company which manufactures the Caesar guns delivered to the Ukrainian army, to review its organization so that it is able to accelerate production rates.

“We need acts, signatures”

Today, between the order of a Caesar cannon and its delivery, you have to wait 18 months. The objective would be to reach around forty units per year, according to someone familiar with the matter. In a logic of intensive production and a full order book, Sébastien Lecornu would also like, according to information from Europe 1, that defense manufacturers reduce their margins. “We are not going to modify our current organizations solely on the word of a minister”, retorts an industrial player in the sector at the microphone of Europe 1. “We need acts, signatures”, he continues.

A particular know-how

It must be said that most French armament groups must make sure upstream that suppliers and subcontractors will follow in terms of supplies, raw materials and also personnel capacities. Especially since some pieces, small jewels of technology, are sometimes produced in an almost artisanal way, as they require a particular know-how.
