Your morning routine consists of snoozing, swallowing a headache pill and burning yourself over coffee? Then you can certainly use a few ideas how to do it differently …

How we start the day with our morning routine can make a big difference! For example, if we are rudely awakened, maybe even in the middle of a stupid dream that gives us a bad feeling on the way, and immediately plunge into the stress of everyday life, this is usually not a particularly good starting point for achieving top performance. Of course, even after the worst morning you can turn things around and make the day a good one. But it usually takes a lot more effort and strength than it would cost after a successful start.

Now, of course, everyone should find out for themselves which morning routine works for them in order to get them in the best possible mood for the day. For some, it’s just more pleasant to snooze a bit, while others prefer to get up straight away. There is no single wake up plan that works for all of us. But there are rituals that have proven themselves for many people and some of which also make sense from a scientific point of view. And we can just try out one or the other of them and take them over if necessary.

Morning Routine: 7 Things Successful People Do in the Morning

1. Get up early

Whether Mozart, Goethe, Matt Damon or Barack Obama, there are numerous prominent examples of successful people who get up or have got up very early – even without having to or had to. There is a simple calculation behind this: Who is awake longer has more time. Of course, getting up early only really pays off if you went to bed on time and slept well – and didn’t look for series until 3 a.m. …

2. Make the bed

It’s not worth making your bed? Then just leave it! It’s just that, with very little effort, it can give us a very welcome impetus of happiness – just got up and already done something. In addition, a tidy environment should also promote our emotional balance. And if that’s really true, it might be worth investing the 30 seconds after getting up. It would at least be worth a try.

3. Drink water

Jennifer Aniston reportedly drinks a glass of water with lemon every morning. Is that your big secret of success? In any case, it can’t do any harm, because the body needs a lot of fluids, especially in the morning, after all, it didn’t get any for hours while sleeping. According to studies, even slight dehydration can result in a noticeable decrease in performance. If we fail to refuel in the morning, we will be behind all day. It’s also good for your metabolism and digestion to start the day with a glass of water. So why not

4. Movement

This, too, is said about Jennifer Aniston’s morning routine: She starts exercising almost every day. The same applies to the aforementioned Mr. Obama and Damon and many other successful people. Sure, on the one hand there are advantages to being fit and looking – the halo effect sends its regards. But exercising in the morning also gets our minds going and gets us in the mood for an active day. It doesn’t have to be an hour and a half jogging or an equipment workout! Ten minutes of yoga or body weight training are sufficient.

5. Gather yourself

We really don’t like to say it, but … starting the day with entertainment, entertainment or work is not exactly typical for real high-flyers – apart from workaholics maybe. The Dalai Lama takes time to meditate every morning, as does media reports, Jennifer Aniston, who seems to be doing pretty much everything right in her morning routine, wow! The same applies here: It doesn’t have to be an hour of meditation with incense sticks, but breathing deeply for five minutes and listening to yourself – without a mobile phone in your hand – has not harmed anyone. Ommm!

6. Be grateful

Make the bed, move around, collect yourself – yes, we are running out of time in our imagination (although from now on we get up extra early …). But we can combine this ritual wonderfully with our short meditation, and it doesn’t take much time anyway: Concentrate on something for which we are grateful. Paying attention to something that makes us happy lifts the mood and gives us motivation and energy. It is not known whether Jennifer Aniston maintains the ritual of gratitude in the morning – but from a neurological and psychological point of view, there are some indications that we still just get used to it.

7. Plan the day

To just get into the day and make something out of it, a person has to be either incredibly cultured or exceptionally stupid – and most people are somewhere in between. That is why it has proven useful for many to plan in the morning what they want to achieve in the day. From a detailed daily schedule with to-dos and times to a resolution such as “I want to say no to something”, everything is allowed and appropriate – depending on where we are in life and where we want to go.
