Putin: “Trump is being persecuted for political motives”

The former US President is accused in four criminal cases in the USA. Trump finds a well-known advocate in the Kremlin, because Putin sees the blame solely “in the American system.” Elon Musk is also moving up Putin’s friends list.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has defended former American President Donald Trump, against whom several legal proceedings are ongoing in the USA. The actions show the “rottenness of the American political system,” Putin said at the economic forum in the eastern Russian port city of Vladivostok. “What is happening with Trump is a persecution of a political competitor for political motives.”
There are currently several proceedings against Trump in the USA. In Washington, for example, he is charged at the federal level in connection with attempted election fraud. It’s about his months-long campaign against his defeat in the 2020 presidential election, which culminated in the violent attack on the US Capitol by his supporters on January 6, 2021. The 77-year-old is accused, among other things, of conspiring against the United States.
In Moscow, meanwhile, words of appreciation are repeatedly spoken about Trump, who, for example, does not criticize Putin for his war of aggression against Ukraine nearly as harshly as incumbent US President Joe Biden. During his appearance in Vladivostok, Putin also praised the US tech billionaire Elon Musk as an “outstanding person”. “He is an active, talented businessman,” said the Kremlin chief.
A few days ago it became known that Musk had prevented a Ukrainian attack on the Russian Black Sea Fleet on the annexed Black Sea peninsula of Crimea. Musk himself said he rejected a request from the Ukrainian government to activate his company SpaceX’s Starlink satellite communications system in the region. SpaceX would have been involved in a major act of war and escalation, Musk explained his decision. These statements caused anger and incomprehension in Ukraine, which was attacked by Russia and which wants to liberate occupied territories as part of its counteroffensive.
