Moscow says it chased a US submarine from its waters, Washington denies


MOSCOW, Feb 12 (Reuters) – The Russian military said on Saturday it had used “appropriate means” to chase a US submarine from its territorial waters in the Far East, according to Russian agencies, the United States denying their side any incursion of one of their submersibles into Russian waters.

According to the Interfax agency, which quotes the Russian army headquarters, the American submarine was spotted near the Kuril Islands, in the Pacific, during Russian naval maneuvers, and it was chased away for lack of ‘having answered repeated calls leave them.

The United States has denied such an incursion, ensuring that all its warships are currently sailing in international waters, in a context of strong tensions between Washington and Moscow around Ukraine.
