Moscow summons Ukrainian charge d’affaires after Lviv incident

MOSCOW / KIEV, December 24 (Reuters) – Russian Foreign Minister on Friday announced that he had summoned the Ukrainian Chargé d’Affaires Moscow to protest against the throwing of a Molotov cocktail against Russian consulate Lviv in western Ukraine.

The minister qualified as an “act of terrorism” the incident which involved his diplomatic representation. The Russian Embassy Kiev officially protested, he added.

Lviv police said they had opened an investigation after what they described as “hooliganism”.

The convocation of the Ukrainian Chargé d’affaires comes amid heightened tensions between the two countries as Kiev and its Western allies accuse Moscow of having massed troops on the Ukrainian border with a view to an invasion, while the Kremlin says it is acting defensively in the face of fear of Ukraine joining NATO.
