Most of the trains stand still

Almost 90 per cent of UK train services will not run for the next 24 hours. An agreement on the wage conflict is still not in sight.

As early as June, the tracks in the United Kingdom remained empty due to a strike.

(dpa) Most trains stopped in UK stations on Saturday due to a widespread strike. Only around eleven percent of the usual connections should run, as a special timetable showed. In some regions of the country there were no trains at all. In the fight for higher wages and better working conditions, tens of thousands of railway employees from various operators wanted to stop working for 24 hours. For the first time, several railway unions called for a strike at the same time. Further strike days are to follow shortly. The collective bargaining conflict has been going on for months, so far there is still no agreement in sight.
