Those who had the joy of trying their hand at Dead Cells know how addictive this French-style 2D platform game can become. Motion Twin’s game has attracted many players with its special atmosphere and offbeat humor, but also and above all thanks to its fine gameplay, easy to learn and difficult to master. True roguelike at heart, this title enjoys replayability ensured by a panel of weapons, each more original than the last (legendary sabers, messy bows, old petoires, laser pistol, but also spears, axes, hammers, whisks and frying pans…) which allow everyone to find the best setup to manage to escape from the prison island infested by malaise.

Dead Cells

This is where it all begins.

Available on just about every platform, from PC to PS5, Switch, Xbox, Android and even iOS, Dead Cells has attracted nearly 10 million players ready to step into the shoes of the Prisoner to help him put an end to his penitentiary ordeal and, incidentally, to the tyranny of the king of the island.

Since 2017 (year of its release), the developers have not remained hands in their pockets since Dead Cells has been entitled (so far) to 34 diverse and varied updates, bringing new weapons, new options, new game modes and new gameplay variations. And if that wasn’t enough, numerous DLCs further expanded the game universe by offering additional biomes and bosses. The latest to date is also eyeing the side of a legendary video game license and offers nothing more and nothing less to give Dracula a good frying in a universe inspired by Castlevania.

Dead Cells

We can guess who’s going to come out.

Unfortunately, the Motion Twin teams have just announced that Dead Cells will no longer receive an update. The 35th update will therefore be the last for this game which remains, even today, a little gem of mastery and video game pleasure. According to the studio, this decision was difficult to make, “especially after the incredible success of the DLC Return to Castlevania”, was motivated by the desire to avoid the “trap of too much of the same thing and to preserve the freshness of Dead Cells”. Obviously, this decision does not concern purely technical updates which make it possible to remedy the various and varied bugs which could arise. These will continue to be deployed.

The Prisoner is not dead…

This announcement, however, does not bury the hero of Dead Cells however. Indeed, Motion Twin warns the community: “Stay alert for news from the animated series, the board game… And who knows if the Prisoner won’t appear in another universe?!?“. So we are waiting for our favorite summer in Fortnite…or another game perhaps a little more suited to his inimitable style.
