Dramatic final meters in the Misano MotoE race! The Swiss motorbike star Dominique Aegerter has to win the last GP of the season if he wants to have another chance at the world championship title.
The Bernese is showing a strong race, starting from fourth place, he is fighting his way forward, putting pressure on World Championship leader Jordi Torres, who is in the lead. A first attack fails, Aegerter has to work his way up a second time. He knows: He has to get past Torres and then hope that he will lose at least one more place so that there is still enough for the World Cup coup.
First the jubilation – then the disappointment
In the last lap, the Swiss attacked again. And this time the maneuver succeeds! Aegerter pulls past – but then the drama takes its course: Torres tries to counter, pulls to the right, hits Aegerter and falls! Aegerter, on the other hand, stays on his motorcycle and is the first to cross the finish line. The victory and the title, it seems!
But the cold shower soon follows. Aegerter’s maneuver is examined by the racing jury. Their verdict: The Swiss got a 38-second drive through penalty for “reckless driving”! With that, Aegerter falls in the race to 12th place just before Torres (13th), the world title is already gone. Bitter! (eg)
