Launched on November 21, 2019, the monetized Personal Training Account (CPF) has enabled, in 4 years, the financing of 6.9 million training courses. A dedicated eponymous platform was created on this date. Since January 12, 2024, it is possible to finance the motorcycle license with (no, it’s not a scam!). With a cost between €700 and €1200 on average, it should relieve the hundred thousand candidates who take the A1 and A2 each year. In France, there were 160,221 in 2021.

The types of motorcycle licenses concerned

To drive a car, you need a B license. To drive a motorcycle, several types of license exist depending on the age of the driver, the engine capacity or other licenses held: the A license, the AM license, the A1 license and the A2 license. The personal training account allows you to finance:

  • The A1 license. It allows you to drive, from the age of 16, a light motorcycle as defined on the Public Service website: “2-wheeled vehicle (scooter, motorcycle with or without sidecar) equipped with an engine with a cylinder capacity not exceeding 125 cm³ and whose power does not exceed 11 kilowatts (15 horsepower). or a 3 wheeler with a maximum power of 15 kilowatts
  • The A2 license. It allows you to drive, from the age of 18, a “motorcycle (with or without sidecar) with a power not exceeding 35 kW (47.5 horsepower), whose power/weight ratio is less than or equal to 0.2 kW/kg” as well as vehicles falling under category A1

The website demarchesadministratives.fr specifies for holders of the B permit : “You cannot use the money from your CPF to do the 7-hour training to drive a two-wheeler or a motorized three-wheeler.

However, the highway code as well as several other permits (licences B (car), B1 (carts), C (heavy goods vehicle), D (public transport), B96 and BE (heavy trailers)) can also be financed by the CPF under the same conditions as for the motorcycle license.

Conditions for awarding training

Not all applicants for A1 and A2 motorcycle licenses are eligible for funding from the CPF. You must meet three criteria, specified on the site:

  • having acquired rights on his personal training account;
  • commit to the honor that this motorcycle license will give you help you find work or keep you employed;
  • not be subject to a driving ban or suspension of his driving license or a ban on applying for a driving license;

As such, the CPF cannot “finance points recovery courses or driving refreshers.“This goes against the criteria for awarding training.

Steps to take

Do you meet the funding criteria and want to get started? The procedure is very simple:

  • Meeting on the CPF website
