Motorhome AC Future: When a spaceship lands on the campsite

MOBILITY

Anyone who pulls up to the parking space with the AC Future eTH is sure to get attention. The mobile designed by Pininfarina will soon be built in series and has space like a tiny house.

The camping boom is unbroken and continues to bring new styles to life. If you are still not enthusiastic about classic motorhomes, gigantic tent palaces or bicycle caravans, just wait a little. Because the future brings great, completely new camping mobiles. At least if AC Future has its way.

The start-up from Silicon Valley teamed up with the well-known design studio Pininfarina and imagined the future of the motorhome. The result is not a classic camper, but rather an “Electric Transformer House (eTH)”, which is more of a rolling designer tiny house.

The mobile should be a travel companion, home and workplace at the same time. The aim is to remain flexible when it comes to the drive system; both electric motors and combustion engines are conceivable. The eTH is only six meters long and, if it were built like that, it could probably fit in many a supermarket parking lot. However, the design only shows its true potential when you park and rest for a long time.

Because then several slideouts come out of the mobile and the living space increases to an impressive 37 square meters. That’s actually more than some tiny houses have to offer. The disadvantage: Since the individual modules are nested inside each other, the living space can only be used on the campsite, as is the case with this extendable caravan.

To ensure that the longest possible downtime away from civilization is possible, the idea creators attach great importance to self-sufficiency. For this purpose, the entire roof including the slideouts was equipped with solar cells. As in expensive luxury mobile homes, special drinking water treatment ensures safe drinking and showering.

Price and availability

As futuristic as this motorhome looks, the company is actually planning on mass production. A functional prototype is expected to be presented this year. Series production is planned for the end of 2025.

We’re excited to see whether we’ll end up having to wait as long for the mobile as we did for the similarly futuristic Romotow T8. Further innovations about motorhomes and camping can be found here on Netzwelt.
