Earlier this summer, we had the opportunity to test the first two smartphones in Motorola’s edge 30 range, namely the Motorola edge 30 Pro and the Motorola edge 30. We liked both of them a lot, despite some inevitable flaws at such attractive prices (compared to their competitors). Will the Motorola edge 30 Ultra, Neo and Fusion that the manufacturer has just officially presented be as good?

In parallel with these releases, the American manufacturer insists on its current eco-responsible approach with regard to the packaging of its new models. Thus, the boxes of the three smartphones are made with 80% recycled materials and are 100% compostable, with soy ink.

With its new edge 30 Ultra model, Motorola goes even further in the high end. The new flagship of the American brand is powered by the overpowered SoC Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, a 3.2 GHz octa-core processor coupled with 12 GB of RAM. In addition to this, we find on the device 256 GB of storage memory, not expandable via MicroSD.

A curved OLED display

On the design side, Motorola has revised its copy and offers something very different from the other models in the range, namely a 6.7-inch FHD + 144 Hz curved OLED screen, ultra-thin aluminum edges and, on the back of the device, a satin finish that offers a premium matte feel. It should be noted from the outset that the smartphone is compatible with 5G, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2.

The Motorola edge 30 Ultra is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and certified IP 52 (protection against dust and water drops). On the battery side, you have to settle for a capacity of 4,610 mAh (compared to 4,800 for the edge 30 Pro), but the terminal is compatible with 125 W TurboPower wired charging and 50 W wireless charging.

A more powerful camera

On the photo side, the Motorola edge 30 Ultra has a 60 megapixel selfie sensor (f / 2.2; 0.61 μm) at the front, in the central punch. At the rear, the photographic module is carried by a main sensor of 200 megapixels (f / 1.9; 0.64 μm) with optical stabilization, capable of combining 16 pixels into one to capture more light.

It is accompanied by a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle/macro sensor (f/2.2; 123°), probably the same one that disappointed us on the Motorola edge 30 Pro, and an x2 telephoto lens of 12 megapixel (f/1.6).

Motorola launches two mid-range smartphones in parallel

In parallel with its new flagship, Motorola is launching two other more affordable smartphones in the mid-range mobile segment. The Motorola edge 30 Fusion presents itself as an elegant and powerful model, where the most affordable of the lot, the Motorola edge 30 Neo, appears as a compact model that does not skimp on the photographic part.

Motorola Edge 30 Fusion

Although it is a mid-range model, the Motorola edge 30 Fusion has an ultra-slim design with premium finishes, similar to that of the Motorola edge 30 Ultra. Its front also features a 6.5-inch FHD+ (1080 x 2400 pixels) curved OLED screen with a maximum refresh rate of 144 Hz.

It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ 5G SoC, octa-core 3 GHz, coupled with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage space, not expandable by a MicroSD card. On the battery side, the model has a capacity of 4,400 mAh, which is better than what the Motorola edge 30 offers, especially since it is compatible with 68 W fast charging.

Again, the American manufacturer insists on the photographic capabilities of the smartphone, while it offers sensors similar to the Motorola edge 30. It is thus equipped at the front with a 32-megapixel selfie sensor (f / 2.4; 1 µm) and a triple lens module on the back.

There is also a 50-megapixel main sensor (f/1.8; 1 µm) with optical stabilization and omnidirectional autofocus, accompanied by a (disappointing, on paper) 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle/macro sensor (f/ 2.2) and a 2 megapixel (f/2.4) depth of field sensor.

Motorola edge 30 neo

The most affordable smartphone in Motorola’s edge 30 range, the Neo model is a rather compact phone: 152 x 71 mm for 7.75 mm thick and 165 grams on the scale. It offers a 6.3-inch FHD + OLED screen with a maximum refresh rate of 120 Hz.

It is powered by a Snapdragon 695 5G SoC, a 2.2 GHz octa-core processor, coupled with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage space, non-expandable via MicroSD. The battery capacity is the same as the Motorola edge 30 at 4,020mAh, but it gets much faster recharging with 68W TurboPower wired charging.

Regarding the photography part, the Motorola edge 30 Neo offers a 32 megapixel (f / 2.4; 1 μm) selfie sensor and a dual lens module on the back, with a 64 megapixel main sensor (f / 1.8; 0.7 µm) which benefits from optical stabilization and a versatile 13 megapixel (f / 2.2) sensor capable of acting as ultra wide-angle, macro and depth sensor.

Model prices and availability

Note that the three new models from Motorola come with Android 12 (S), without overlay from the manufacturer, except for the Moto application which allows you to customize the interface of your smartphone somewhat. However, the carrier does not specify the number of OS upgrades that will be supported or the number of years that it will continue to roll out security updates.

These smartphones launched by Motorola will be available from September 2022. The Motorola edge 30 Ultra is available in two colors, black and white, and sold at an indicative retail price of 899 euros, i.e. 100 euros more than the Motorola edge 30 Pro .

The Motorola edge 30 Fusion is also available in black and white colors, at an indicative retail price of 699 euros, i.e. 200 euros more than the Motorola edge 30. Finally, the Motorola edge 30 Neo benefits from four colors, namely very peri, silver, pastel green and black, and is marketed at an indicative retail price of 399 euros.

These three terminals benefit from an introductory offer. So, for any purchase of one of these three Motorola smartphones, you will get a free voice assistant with its charging base (Lenovo Smart Clock 2) as well as a refund offer, as follows:

  • 100 euros for the Motorola edge 30 Ultra;
  • 70 euros for the Motorola edge 30 Fusion;
  • 50 euros for the Motorola edge 30 Neo.

If one of these models catches your eye and you want to take advantage of its introductory offer, you won’t have to wait too long, because it’s limited to 700 participations.
