Motorola presents its Edge 2022, the first smartphone equipped with the Dimensity 1050

No respite at Motorola when it comes to announcements. The American branch presented the 2022 vintage of the Edge, its mid-range smartphone, equipped with a brand new chip from MediaTek, the Dimensity 1050.

Motorola is having a busy summer. In Asia, the new Razr 2022 and Edge X30 Pro were announced a little over a week ago, and now it’s the turn of the American branch to lift the veil on a new smartphone. A mobile from the Edge range, soberly called Edge (2022).

Motorola’s new proposal on the Edge range is hardly different from what it is used to offering us. The flagship has a design quite close to the 2021 model, but we believe we can detect a change in strategy with regard to the proposed technical sheet. This obviously concerns the SoC, since the firm is abandoning Qualcomm in favor of the Taiwanese MediaTek. In fact, it is the Dimensity 1050 which is integrated into the smartphone. A brand new chip, which makes its debut on the Motorola smartphone. A processor engraved in 6 nm, with millimetric 5G and coupled with 8 GB of RAM. We are therefore dealing with a good mid-range chip, which could offer solid performance, especially since Motorola often manages to optimize its models very well.

In the radius of changes of good tone, there is also a brand new screen. If the first Edge was in Oled, the second had opted for LCD technology. For the 2022 generation, Motorola returns to its first love and opts for a 6.6-inch OLED panel, with a refresh rate of 114 Hz and HDR10+ compatible. The return of the Oled panel to the range also signals that of the fingerprint reader under the screen. At the level of the photo, Motorola abandons the 108 megapixels in favor of a 50 megapixel module with optical stabilization (OIS). It is accompanied by a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens whose lens opens at f / 1.5, which is rare enough to be underlined. A 2 megapixel depth sensor takes care of completing the photographic offer.

For the rest, Motorola is still betting on a large 5000 mAh battery, capable of being recharged thanks to a 30 W block. This year, there is also a wireless charge at 15 W, as well as a charge reversed at 5 W. The smartphone does not benefit from the Ready For solution, which the firm seems to reserve for its more expensive flagships. The IP52 standard certifies that it will resist without flinching the few splashes that could reach it.

The Edge 2022 has so far only been announced in the United States, but it is not impossible for the smartphone to land with us for the start of the school year, to accompany a potential third-generation Razr.
