Motorola, one of the first to have entered the segment of folding smartphones, intends to make a place for itself in the sun. Using its flagship, the Razr 40 Ultra, but not only, since the Lenovo brand is offering its youngest in a slightly more modest technical version, and logically less expensive: the Razr 40. A slightly lighter model too well physically, with 186 grams on the scale, than technically.

A small format outdoor screen

While the Razr 40 Ultra has a large 3.6-inch exterior screen, its little brother operates a visible compromise: its external panel has a diagonal limited to 1.5 inches, reminiscent of that of a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4, for example. No need in these conditions to offer a particularly high refresh rate: Motorola has opted for 60 Hz, but still relies on Oled. It is possible to consult its notifications and to access widgets, such as the weather forecast or Spotify.

The screen housed inside the smartphone is almost exactly identical to that of the Razr 40 Ultra. It is therefore a 6.9-inch OLED panel, Full HD +, HDR10 + compatible and above all offering a maximum refresh rate of 144 Hz, thanks to the LTPO. The rate of 165 Hz remains the prerogative of the Razr 40 Ultra, as well as the support for Dolby Atmos. The Flex View mode, allowing the smartphone to be used semi-open, placed on a table for example, is also available.

The game of the seven differences does not stop there. The Ultra’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 gives way to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chip, which is definitely on the rise at the end of spring – Honor has also retained it on its freshly formalized 90 model. It is here flanked by 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. To support it, Motorola has chosen a 4200 mAh battery compatible with 30 W charging, which should give it a comfortable autonomy. Let’s add that a welcome wireless charge, however limited to 5 W, is also in the game.

Let’s finish with the photo component of this Razr Edge 40. It is equipped with a dual exterior module, including a 64 Mpx main sensor, with its stabilized wide-angle optics, but also a 13 megapixel sensor supplemented by an ultra wide- angle. Inside, a 32-megapixel sensor is dedicated to selfies.

A launch for less than €900

The launch price of the Razr Edge 40 benefits from these few compromises, both in terms of power and photography. It is indeed necessary to count 899 € for a launch by the end of June, in sage, white and grape colors. A price below the symbolic bar of 1000 € and which, the brand hopes, will contribute to democratizing the folding format.
