Exactly 3 years before the 2025 Mountain Bike World Championships, the preparation for the title fights in Sion was launched with a celebration.

In September 2025, the first combined mountain bike world championships in history will take place in the canton of Valais. The medals will be awarded in 7 disciplines within 2 weeks. On Tuesday, exactly three years before the start of the event, the preparations were ceremonially launched.

“It’s great that after Lenzerheide 2018 we can bring our sport even closer to the population in another Swiss region with a World Cup,” said Jolanda Neff. “It gives the whole sport a great boost. It will be a big festival for Valais and all of Switzerland.”

Of course I want to start at the World Championships in top form.

The cross-country Olympic champion – like downhill World Cup winner Camille Balanche – was present at the unveiling of a fresco showing the World Cup logo in the heart of Sion. Although there are still 3 years to go before the home title fights, Neff is already looking forward to it. “Of course I want to start at the World Cup in top form.”

The title fights will be held in Crans-Montana (cross-country), the Région Dents du Midi (downhill), in Grächen (E-MTB), Leukerbad (enduro), Verbier and Val d’Anniviers (marathon), Monthey (pump track) , Zermatt (short track) and Sion (opening ceremony and entertainment).

There could be a dynamic like you know it from the Olympic Games.

Thomas Peter, Managing Director of Swiss Cycling, is looking forward to the major event with great anticipation: “We have the opportunity to combine the various mountain bike disciplines in one event for the first time. There could be a dynamic like you know it from the Olympic Games. Of course we hope so.”
