MPK decides on Deutschlandticket and help for companies

The last prime ministers’ conference of this year decided not only on financing the 49-euro ticket but also on aid packages for the economy.

Ruled for exactly one year now: Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The Germany-wide ticket for local transport is coming, the dispute over the costs has been settled. This was announced by Chancellor Olaf Scholz after the round of negotiations with the state leaders on Thursday. The Germany ticket for buses and trains in local transport with an introductory price of 49 euros per month is to build on the popular 9-euro ticket from the summer. It should be introduced as soon as possible. The government representatives have not yet set a date, but: “This must not be a summer issue,” said Lower Saxony’s Social Democratic Prime Minister Stephan Weil. Most recently, April 1 was the target. The dispute over the costs was settled on Thursday: they now want to be divided equally between the federal and state governments.

Before the meeting, Weil’s North Rhine-Westphalian colleague Hendrik Wüst warned that the transport industry had calculated with a 69-euro ticket. If the traffic light coalition in the federal government wants a 49-euro ticket, “then you won’t find a solution with the calculation basis of a 69-euro ticket,” said the CDU politician. “In the end, it shouldn’t go so far that the 49-euro ticket comes, but we cancel services, trains and buses.” So the problem is now out of the world.

State aid for small and medium-sized enterprises

In addition to the Germany ticket, the prime ministers of the federal states and the chancellor spoke on Thursday primarily about the energy crisis, as it threatens the economy, and about help for small and medium-sized companies. Hardship aid in the amount of one billion euros was decided. Originally, the federal government had asked the states to make their own contribution, but the states rejected this because they also have their own support programs. “We don’t think it’s appropriate to come up with an own contribution, because most countries are starting their own large-volume programs in the same direction,” said Weil before the meeting with the Chancellor.

Scholz opened the press conference with a brief summary of his first year in office, as Thursday marked the anniversary of his inauguration. 100 laws have already been enacted in the short time.
