MPs banned from broadcasting on Twitch from the hemicycle

The practice was in vogue, especially on the side of the Nupes. The live broadcast on Twitch of the debates in the National Assembly, acclaimed for example by Ugo Bernalicis, elected in the second district of the North since 2017, will no longer be authorized. Meeting on December 7, 2022, the Bureau of the National Assembly decided to ban it, in the same way as telephone calls during sessions.

“The Bureau confirmed that the provisions of Article 9 of the General Instruction of the Bureau, which prohibits Members from telephoning inside the Chamber, also apply to the use of any communication tool with outside from the hemicycle, in particular on platforms retransmitting the video or audio stream of the debates”, can we read in the report. Until now, the rules of procedure of the Palais-Bourbon did not mention anything like this, which had led Ugo Bernalicis or Antoine Léaument to try this practice of a new kind in politics, with two calls to order during debates on the LOPMI law in November and December.

“We want to bring people in with us and take sharp debates out of the sphere of specialists”, explained Ugo Bernalicis to our colleagues from BFMTV. His rebellious colleague adds: “It’s a shame, we really didn’t disturb the session and we opened the Assembly to other people. I think this decision is mostly out of jealousy.” From now on, the Twitch sessions will take place from their office in the Palais-Bourbon, and probably in the form of a debrief.
