The first season of “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” was well received by viewers on Amazon Prime Video and was able to stay in the top 10 of the best series for weeks. So it’s no wonder that the remake of the 2005 action spy film is now officially getting a second season on the streaming service.
Despite the good news for all fans of the popular Prime series, there is a big surprise regarding the cast, as there could be completely new main actors. You will find all other important information about the second season below.
Mr. & Mrs. Smith Season 2: Start
It is not yet known when the second season of “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” will be released. If filming begins during the year, we expect the new episodes to be released around End of 2025 or beginning of 2026.
The US industry magazine Variety quotes Amazon MGM Studios head Jennifer Salke on the plans for the second season of “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” as follows:
“We’re excited to announce the second season of our groundbreaking spy series ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’ is in the works for our global Prime Video customers. […] The success of the first season, with its incredibly modern, sexy reinterpretation of the original film, is a testament to the brilliant creators Donald Glover and Francesa Sloane. Mr. & Mrs. Smith Season 2: Cast
According to current information, the main actors Donald Glover (“Atlanta”, “Swarm”) and Maya Erskine (“Blue Eye Samurai”) will not be seen again in their roles. The reason for this could be scheduling difficulties, as Glover, as rapper Childish Gambino, recently announced a world tour starting in February 2025. Nevertheless, he remains co-creator and executive producer of the spy series together with Francesca Sloane (“Fargo”).
Mr. & Mrs. Smith Season 2: Plot
Since the two main actors Donald Glover and Maya Erskine will probably not appear in their roles again, “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” could be continued as an anthology story in the coming episodes. Each season will introduce a new pair of agents who have to complete further missions. After the first season had a very bloody ending, this could also be a fitting way to draw a line under the series.
