News graphics cards stamped GeForce 4000 at MSI? No, it is not (yet) a refresh ordered by NVIDIA.

If the power of NVIDIA’s Ada Lovelace graphics cards is beyond doubt, their size is not debatable. So we’re happy to see that an MSI range should improve things.

Eleven new MSI RTX 4000 graphics cards

At IFA 2023 in Berlin, MSI actually presented a series of eleven new graphics cards based on NVIDIA’s Ada Lovelace GPUs. A series that follows the GeForce RTX 4000.

Called Gaming Slim, this new range will not revolutionize things. That said, as the name chosen very clearly indicates, the Taiwanese company has focused on the size of the RTX 4000s so that MSI speaks of a “ sleek design “. The idea is therefore to slim down the cooling solution so that the more than 3 slots thick are no longer relevant today.

The eleven new cards touch almost all GPUs: RTX 4090, RTX 4080, RTX 4070 Ti, RTX 4070 and RTX 4060 Ti. In the worst case, we are talking about a thickness of 2.5 PCIe slots, on the RTX 4090 and RTX 4080.

2.5 slots thick maximum

MSI also states that the Gaming Slim range ” offers thinner and lighter models that guarantee the user more flexibility for mounting while promising high performance “.

To achieve this reduction in the thickness of the cooling system of its cards, MSI has notably opted for its TRI FROZR 3.0 based on TORX 5.0 fans for which the company specifies that the ” blades are grouped in threes and connected by their upper part “. MSI also highlights the presence of a ” nickel-plated copper base plate and eight heat pipes (depending on model) located at the heart of the radiator “.

Interesting features, but which do not seem to change that much compared to previous RTX 4000 models from MSI. We will therefore have to judge on parts or consult tests from our colleagues to find out if the Gaming Slim do not heat up more than their big sisters. In any case, MSI seems to have been able to retain very high frequencies.

“X” models – factory overclocked – and “white” cards – all dressed in white – are also on the menu, but with one regret: MSI gave no price or release date details.
