On the forehead of SSD PCI Express 5.0, things are progressing slowly and the first products should soon arrive at retailers.

High mass of technological innovations in all their forms, the CES in Las Vegas is finally the opportunity to discover NVMe SSDs supporting PCI Express 5.0, “in situ”.

Two PCIe 5.0 versions

Promised by many manufacturers since the launch of the Alder Lake platform by Intel – in November 2021 – these next-generation SSDs have been around for quite a while, but some of the big players are getting started now.

Thereby, Tom’s Hardware was able to discover, on the MSI stand, two new products in the Spatium range. The latter brings together the brand’s high-performance SSDs and, these PCIe 5.0 models are indisputably high-performance.

MSI is preparing to launch the Spatium M570 and M570 Pro, based on one of the latest controllers, the Phison M26. On the SSD Pro, it’s about taking advantage of the latest Micron 232-layer memory, when we talk about TLC ” slower on the non-Pro version.

12324 MB/s verified on CrystalDiskMark

Logically, the performance will be better on the Pro model for which MSI advances speeds of 12 GB/s in sequential reading and another 10 GB/s in sequential writing.

The non-Pro model does not have to be ashamed all the same since it is a question of 10 GB/s in both cases: we remain clearly above the speeds offered by the best PCI Express 4.0 SSDs. Tom’s Hardware specifies that he was able to see a demonstration of the M570 Pro, 2 TB version, on CrystalDiskMark : 12,324 MB/s in reading and 11,814 MB/s in writing.

The test platform was based on an MSI – what a surprise – X670E Carbon motherboard which had a Ryzen 9 7950X processor. Finally, note that the two versions of the SSD will be offered in 1 TB, 2 TB and 4 TB versions at prices still unknown, but from the second quarter of 2023.
