MSI has updated the technical specifications of the gaming laptop models in its Katana family. With a renewed technical sheet including an NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4060 graphics card, the Katana 15 B12VFK promises to run all the big games of the moment smoothly.

A design in the pure gaming spirit
With its aggressive curves and its aesthetics respecting the codes of gamers, the MSI Katana 15 B12VFK benefits from a magnificent design that does not go unnoticed. Everything is enhanced by an RGB keyboard with four backlighting zones with the most beautiful effect. In addition, the ZQSD keys are highlighted by a dedicated backlight and a special design, which make it possible to identify at a glance the location of these all-important keys while bringing an even more marked style to the keyboard and to the computer. The activation distance of only 1.7 mm allows a clear and effective strike, as well as the possibility of carrying out sequences of rapid actions in game.
The 15.6-inch IPS panel is recessed to leave only thin 5mm bezels on the sides, enhancing immersion in the displayed content. The screen has a Full HD 1920 x 1080 pixel definition and relies on a high refresh rate of 144 Hz, a very useful fluidity for online and competitive games such as League of Legends, Fortnite, CS:GO or Call of Duty.
The audio part of the experience is entrusted to two stereo speakers, but it is of course possible to connect headphones via the jack connector. The laptop is compatible with Nahimic 3D Surround technology for immersive and spatial sound. It also supports the Hi-Res Audio standard, a standard for listening to music in first quality, without frequency degradation due to compression.
The DLSS 3 Revolution
The Katana 15 B12VFK incorporates the NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4060, a next-generation graphics card based on the all-new Ada Lovelace architecture. The 8GB GPU of GDDR6 memory, as found on the previous series RTX™ 3070, provides more than enough performance to natively play any current title under good conditions.
And you’ll even be able to play in excellent conditions thanks to DLSS 3, an upscaling technology introduced with the new RTX™ 40. DLSS 3 goes even further than its predecessor in terms of artificial intelligence to allow you to play in Ultra quality with a high number of frames per second. The GPU will in fact calculate the scenes in a lower definition than that targeted, which makes it possible to benefit from very high performance in return. But the user does not sacrifice the graphic quality because the AI then enters the scene, which will take care of increasing the quality of the image in order to reach the desired definition, and this without needing to draw on the deep resources of the GPU to calculate it.
The new generation of NVIDIA graphics cards is also equipped with new RT cores, which will help the GPU to accurately calculate the effects of light in game. Ray tracing makes it possible to radically change the environment in which we evolve, making it both more realistic and more beautiful. The reflection of light adopts a much more natural behavior, while reflections in mirrors and puddles become simply exceptional.
The GeForce RTX™ 4060 is also Max-Q optimized. It thus benefits from a suite of features based on AI designed to offer laptops the best balance between performance, autonomy and heating.
State-of-the-art cooling system
To avoid overheating, MSI has developed a new cooling system with heat pipes, called Cooler Boost 5. Composed of two fans and six heat pipes, this design innovates with a heat pipe process shared between the GPU and the CPU. This improves the cooling quality of the laptop and helps the processor to deliver higher performance.
The CPU is a 12th generation Intel® Core™ i7-12650H, which uses a split hybrid architecture between high-performance cores and energy-efficient cores. This method of designing and operating the processor helps allocate necessary resources more efficiently to running processes, honing CPU performance for both gaming and multitasking.
As for memory, the MSI Katana 15 B12VFK counts on 16 GB of DDR5 RAM, expandable up to 64 GB, as well as 512 GB of PCIe Gen4 x4 M.2 NVMe SSD storage space, with the possibility of add a second storage solution of this kind in order to install more games and store photos, videos and files without worrying about the available space.
The laptop offers a MUX functionality, which lets the user choose between different graphics support modes, these determining which GPU is used between the dedicated one of the graphics card and the integrated one of the processor chip. You decide which solution is best suited to each situation, depending on the power and range you need.
The laptop comes with Windows 11 operating system pre-installed, so you save buying a license from Microsoft and time on installing the OS.
