The MTV Video Music Awards will be presented in the USA on Sunday night. Everything you need to know about the award ceremonies.

Sunday night (August 28) the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards will be presented in the USA. The annual awards ceremony is held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Nicki Minaj (38), Jack Harlow (24) and LL Cool J (54) will be the moderators. Who can hope for a trophy this year and who will perform? Everything you need to know about the VMAs at a glance.

These are the nominees

Kendrick Lamar (35), Jack Harlow and Lil Nas X (23) lead the field with seven nominations each. Close behind follow Harry Styles (28) and Doja Cat (26) with six each and Billie Eilish (20), Drake (35), Dua Lipa (27), Ed Sheeran (31), Taylor Swift (32) and The Weeknd ( 32) with five nominations.

The list for artist of the year includes Bad Bunny (28), Drake, Ed Sheeran, Harry Styles, Jack Harlow, Lil Nas X and Lizzo (34). Adele (34, “Easy on Me”), Billie Eilish (“Happier Than Ever”), Doja Cat (“Woman”), Lizzo (“About Damn Time”) and Elton John (75) are for the song of the year Dua Lipa nominated for “Cold Heart (PNAU Remix)” and The Kid Laroi (18) with Justin Bieber (28) for “Stay”.

These performances are planned

As every year, some artists will also perform on stage. Appearances by Lizzo, Blackpink, Harlow and Maneskin are planned. Lizzo will perform “2 Be Loved”, the ESC winner 2021 Maneskin an interpretation of their hit “Supermodel”. There are also performances by Anitta (29), Marshmello (30) and Khalid (24), Nicki Minaj and Panic! planned at the disco.

Another highlight: Eminem (49) and Snoop Dogg (50) will perform their hit “From the D 2 the LBC” on the VMA stage.

Special awards

Nicki Minaj will receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award. The 39-year-old rapper joins an illustrious list of previous award winners – which include Madonna (64), Jennifer Lopez (53) and Missy Elliott (51).

The band Red Hot Chili Peppers, on the other hand, is honored with the “Global Icon” award.

Is there a surprise?

Johnny Depp (50) is said to appear at the VMAs as a so-called “Moon Person”. The surprise appearance was reported recently the US portal “TMZ”. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star should therefore dress up as the figurehead of the station.

The “Moonman” was recently renamed the “Moon Person”.

Where the transmission is running

According to German time, the warm-up begins at 0:05 a.m. on the night from Sunday to Monday. The pre-show starts at 1 a.m. and the award ceremony starts at 2 a.m. The MTV broadcaster broadcasts the pre- and main show on television, and there is also a live stream.
