MTV VMAs 2023: These musicians will perform

The presentation of the MTV Video Music Awards is approaching: on September 12 (in the night of September 13 in this country) the coveted awards will be presented at the Prudential Center in New Jersey. Now it is clear who will honor the event with a musical performance.

US singer Demi Lovato (31), Colombian artist Karol G (32), Italian rock band Måneskin and K-pop greats Stray Kids have now been confirmed as acts. While the latter will make their first-ever VMA appearance, Lovato returns to the awards show stage after six years, just in time for the release of her new record. Her new album “Revamped” is scheduled for September 15th and will contain rock versions of her hits. At the VMAs she can hope for prizes in two categories: “Best Pop” and “Video for Good”.

The nominations

Taylor Swift (33) is the sole frontrunner at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards with eight nominations. Swift is represented in all major categories, 21 in total this year. She herself has been nominated for “Artist of the Year”, her hit “Anti-Hero” will be launched in seven other categories, including “Best Song”, “Best Video”, “Best Director” and “Best Pop”.

US singer SZA (33) can look forward to six nominations, Doja Cat (27), Miley Cyrus (30), Nicki Minaj (40), Olivia Rodrigo (20) and Sam Smith (31) can hope in five categories each. Shakira (46), Diddy (53) and the girl group Blackpink each received four nominations.

According to the press release, more first-nominated stars than at any previous VMA awards ceremony were able to look forward to one or even more nominations. The German newcomer Kim Petras (30), born in Bonn, is leading the field here – she was able to reap a proud five nominations, all for her joint hit with Sam Smith (31), “Unholy”. It’s up for grabs for Video of the Year and Song of the Year, as well as for direction, visual effects and choreography.
