Saudi Arabia is experiencing an unparalleled construction boom. Now, with “Mukaab,” a giant cubist cube is to be created that is twenty times the size of the Empire State Building.
- Mukaab is set to become the next mega-building in Saudi Arabia.
- The 400 x 400 x 400 meter building has a floor area of around two square kilometers.
- Inside the shell there is said to be a tower.
- The building is to become the center of the newly established district of New Murabba near Riyadh.
In the desert of Saudi Arabia, one grotesquely large building after the next is being built. The mega-project Neom with the 170-kilometer-long “The Line” building, which is already under construction and is getting bigger every day, has received a lot of attention. Now the “Mukaab” project is making headlines.
The height of the cube is not unusual. At 400 meters, it only ranks 41st in the list of the world’s tallest skyscrapers. But Mukaab is as wide as it is long as it is high! The dazzling façade is said to be reminiscent of traditional Islamic architecture, and there is said to be a huge roof garden at the top. According to the creators, the volume of the cube is so large that 20 Empire State Buildings would fit in it.
But above all, what is to be created inside the cube leaves you speechless: Mukaab is supposed to contain a twisted tower that is invisible from the outside! This is to accommodate shops, function as a tourist attraction (opera, theatre) and also house apartments and a hotel.
The outer walls – as a video suggests – serve as a projection surface for very different worlds. For example, you could sit in one of the numerous restaurants and feel like you are on Mars. As with Neom, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is the patron of the project. The mammoth project is expected to be completed in 2030.
