The incident, the origin of which has not yet been determined, broke out shortly before 11:30 p.m. in an apartment on the 15th floor of a building in the popular Coteaux district, south-west of Mulhouse. A video posted online by the regional daily L’Alsace shows large flames coming out of the windows of an apartment.

60 firefighters mobilized

About 60 firefighters were mobilized and quickly brought the fire under control, which required the evacuation of around 100 residents of the tower. 24 people inhaled the fumes and were examined on the spot by a medical team from Samu de Mulhouse. Four of them, in relative urgency, were taken to hospital for examinations. The top four floors of the tower are temporarily inaccessible. About fifteen people have been taken care of by the municipality and will be relocated.

The Minister Delegate for the City and Housing, Olivier Klein, had Mayor Michèle Lutz as well as Jean Rottner, first deputy and LR president of the Grand Est Region, “to assure them of the support and help of the State. in particular for the rehousing of the victims,” ​​the ministry told AFP.
