Rooftop tents are becoming increasingly popular, and even hardware manufacturer Jackery has one with solar cells in its range. The boom is understandable. After all, car roof tents transform a normal car into a camping vehicle, almost a mini motorhome, with a manageable amount of effort.

Some people combine a roof tent with extensions or an awning. The company Thecatal, which has so far barely appeared, goes one step further with the Magic Fort flying ship model. The startup uses an inflatable pole, as is now common practice in the industry, but also does some things completely differently.
This means that your own vehicle becomes an integral part of the setup; the tent accommodates it like a garage. This has several advantages. On the one hand, the car is well protected from the weather, but can still be used mobile at the holiday destination. On the other hand, your own vehicle can be included as a living space in the tent setup.
The manufacturer offers different variants; The Magic Fort shown here is the largest model. It accommodates up to twelve people who spend the night in several rooms. There are also separate changing rooms. The entrance height is such that even pick-ups and large SUVs can fit.
Completely assembled, the Magic Fort offers an impressive floor space of 40 square meters! Once the basic framework is in place, the vehicle is driven inside. The second floor is then built on the car roof in the form of an additional room, which is also an inflatable mattress.
According to the manufacturer, the Magic Fort is an all-season tent that does not shy away from winter use. The water column is 5,000 millimeters. In Germany, a tent is officially considered waterproof according to the DIN standard if it can withstand a water column of 1,500 millimeters.
Price and availability
The Magic Fort is part of the Boundary series, which manufacturer Thectal is currently promoting on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. For the Magic Fort presented, you currently pay 2,301 euros. After the campaign is completed, the price will rise to 4,240 euros.
