Multiple explosions at a fuel depot in Cuba

(dpa) Dozens of people have been injured in several explosions at a fuel depot in northern Cuba. 52 people were treated in the hospital, as the director of the Hospital Faustino Pérez in Matanzas, Taimí Martínez, announced on Saturday. Ten of the victims were seriously injured. President Miguel Díaz-Canel assessed the situation on the spot and visited the victims in the hospital.

Lightning blew up a fuel tank in the port of Matanzas during a thunderstorm on Friday evening. More tanks exploded in the area during the night. Firefighters tried to bring the fires under control. According to the provincial government, around 800 people from neighboring residential areas were brought to safety.
