MultiVersus is taking a break and won’t return until 2024

A small turn and then goes away. Despite launching to much fanfare, with over 20 million downloads announced in just one month, MultiVersus has never been able to find its long-term audience. This is why, eight months after the start of its open beta, the free to play fighting game from Warner Bros. Games will take some time to rethink. The beta will end on June 25, 2023, and MultiVersus won’t return until early 2024, at best.

It must be said that since the records of last summer, the player base has quickly evaporated. The hype around the novelty left as quickly as it arrived. With a clear culprit: the lack of new content. Thus, since the last major update dated November 15, which at the time brought season 2 and Marvin the Martian, nothing to put in your mouth. The capricious servers, struggling to correctly retransmit the speed of the gameplay, also have their share of responsibility.

And we have to believe that the development team is aware of its problems. Since they are the ones who are cited as the priorities for the coming months. Improve the pace of content, whether in terms of characters, maps and game modes. But above all tackle netcode and matchmaking projects. And in order not to let the game vegetate while waiting for all this to be ready, the decision was therefore made to temporarily disconnect MultiVersus. Access to the training mode and local matches will still be possible, but that will be all. For the rest, we will have to wait to see what will come out of this break, which Player First Games claims to be just a goodbye.
