While the title hasn’t been released, Warner Bros’ platform fighter beats all fighting games with its free-to-play model and beloved characters.
MultiVersus is already a hit before the opening of its beta. However, the game ridicules other fighting games even before its release. Indeed, from the first day of the open beta, MultiVersus has reached an all-time high of 144,456 concurrent players on Steam and rose to the platform’s top four titles after averaging around 40,000 players during last week’s early access period, according to SteamDB.
While already beating Dragon Ball FighterZ, the former highest attendance peak titleholder, just with its closed beta, MultiVersus towers above all fighting games. This success is mainly due to the free-to-play model of the title which, although already applied by other fighting games like Brawlhalla finds its success thanks to the casting proposed by the title.
With characters like Batman, Bugs Bunny or even the very recent Lebron James, the game is a bombshell for the fighting game scene. the large number of players will contribute to the sustainability of MultiVersus, as it will have a consistent matchmaking system to power new and old players looking to play.
