Munich and more: These films are coming to Netflix soon

Netflix has presented new film productions. Not only "Munich" with Oscar winner Jeremy Irons comes to the streaming service.

The streaming service Netflix provided insights into upcoming film projects from the German-speaking market at the first "Content Road Show", which took place due to the "Remote" corona pandemic. One highlight is "Munich" (AT), the film adaptation of the bestseller of the same name by Robert Harris (63). The director is the German Christian Schwochow (42, "Deutschstunde"). In addition to Oscar winner Jeremy Irons (72) as Neville Chamberlain, the cast also includes George MacKay, Jannis Niewöhner, Sandra Hüller, Liv Lisa Fries and August Diehl.

In "Munich" (AT) in autumn 1938 Europe is on the verge of war. Adolf Hitler is preparing to invade Czechoslovakia and Neville Chamberlain's government is looking for a peaceful solution. A conference in Munich looking for a compromise without bloodshed stirs hope – because Hitler is ready to negotiate. But can Chamberlain trust Hitler? Right in the middle of a network of political deception: Hugh Legat, a young British civil servant, and Paul von Hartmann, a young German diplomat and resistance fighter.

From Schweighöfer to Buck

The prequel to Zack Snyder's (54) "Army of the Dead", which is being shot in several languages, was already announced. Matthias Schweighöfer (39) not only directs and works as a producer. He also plays the main role. The film revolves around his "Army of the Dead" character Ludwig Dieter. Before the army of the dead invaded Las Vegas, he led a quiet, desolate life in Germany – until Gwendoline recruited him for higher tasks. The cast also includes Schweighöfer's girlfriend Ruby O. Fee as well as Nathalie Emmanuel, Stuart Martin, Guz Khan, Jonathan Cohen and Noémie Nakai. The film is expected to be released at the end of 2021.

As early as December 4, 2020, "We can not do otherwise" by director Detlev Buck (57) will be available. The film was originally produced for the cinema. In it, Sam accompanies Edda to her homeland after an intoxicating night of love, an unknown, almost empty province. The couple are separated and get caught between the front lines of a fight between two men who have nothing more to lose. The cast includes Kostja Ullmann and Alli Neumann as well as Sophia Thomalla, Peter Kurth and Detlev Buck himself.

Further film projects

"Prison Break" star Dominic Purcell (50) can be seen in "Blood Red Sky" alongside Peri Baumeister, Kais Setti, Alexander Scheer and Graham McTavish. Nadja has the ability to protect her son and the passengers. Because what nobody knows: Nadja is the last vampire. "Blood Red Sky" is expected to appear at the end of 2021.

In "Prey" (AT) there is a disturbing bachelor party weekend. Roman goes hiking with his buddies, including his older brother Albert. While one friend after another is being eliminated, Roman realizes that he can never trust his brother again. David Kross, Hanno Koffler, Maria Ehrich, Yung Ngo, Klaus Steinbacher, Nellie Thalbach, Livia Matthes and Robert Finster are part of the cast. "Meet four" (AT) by director Florian Gottschick (39) tells the story of two befriended couples of the "generation incapable of relationships" who had a common experiment behind them: a four-week partner swap, which of course had consequences. It has to be renegotiated who really loves whom, who is with whom and who is leaving. Nilam Farooq, Paula Kalenberg, Jonas Nay and Louis Nitsche can be seen in the Kammerspiel, which is expected to be released at the end of 2021.

"Black Island" is a North Sea thriller starring Alice Dwyer, Philip Froissant, Mercedes Müller, Hanns Zischler, Lieselotte Voss and Sammy Scheuritzel, among others. After the tragic death of his parents, high school graduate Jonas lives with his grandfather on a North Sea island. The arrival of the new, young German teacher Helena turns Jonas' life upside down.
