This Monday marks the difficult return to college for the students of the Germillac establishment in Tonneins in Lot-et-Garonne, after the death of their comrade Vanesa, raped and killed by a 31-year-old man. A trauma that affects college students as teachers, says the rector of the Bordeaux academy.

Monday was difficult for the students of the Germillac de Tonneins college in Lot-et-Garonne. Everyone had in mind the drama of this weekend: their comrade Vanesa, 14, was kidnapped, raped and killed by a 31-year-old man who confessed to the facts and is currently in pre-trial detention. A psychological support unit has been set up at the college and the teachers listen to their students.

“It’s an absolute tragedy”

Anne Bisagni-Faure, rector of New Aquitaine, explains to the microphone of Europe 1 how the start of the school year on Monday went. “The students arrived at 8 a.m. They were able to talk in class with their teachers and the second and third hours of lessons took place.” The day was difficult for some. “What I was told was that there was emotion among some students. But for now, there are few words. There was a little crying, two or three wanted to write something. And then, of course, it will be a constant attention in the days to come and even beyond”, she says.

For the rector, “it is an absolute tragedy” which does not only affect the students but also the teaching staff. “The trauma, it’s there, we’re there too, we share it. I gave my support to the team, which of course was absolutely obvious. It’s been the case since Saturday, but it’s not the same to see each other and share this emotion together.” After a mass in memory of the teenager, Friday, a white march will be organized. Her body will then be repatriated to Spain, in the region of Granada where she lived for several years.
