Murder of Alexia Daval: the trial of Jonathann postponed to 2021: Current Woman The MAG

It was one of the most anticipated trials of the year. But like all of France, the justice system is deeply impacted by the coronavirus epidemic. But unlike the trial of Christian Quesada, which was held behind closed doors and by videoconference because of the containment measures, that of Jonathann Daval will not take place any time soon. The hearing was initially scheduled to take place in November 2020, more than three years after the death of Alexia Daval, on the night of October 27 to 28, 2017. If the 35-year-old computer specialist had finally confessed to being the murderer of his wife, he will not go to court until next year. On April 9, lawyers for both parties announced a postponement to March 2021. According to information from Parisian, the defense and civil party counsel agree on the proposed dates, namely the first five days of March.

Jonathann Daval faces life in prison

We are a little disappointed because the more time passes and the more there is a natural erosion of memory, the more difficult it is to bring out the truth, said Randall Schwerdorffer, lead counsel for Jonathann Daval, to our colleagues. “This postponement of three months is bearable”, meanwhile told Me Gilles-Jean Portejoie, lawyer for the parents, sister and brother-in-law of the victim. Alexia Daval's husband was to appear from 16 to 20 November next for "murder on a spouse", before the Assize Court of Haute-Saône, in Vésoul. He faces life imprisonment. The lifeless body of his wife was found on October 30, 2017, in a wood near the couple's house, partially calcined. After pretending to be a grieving husband for more than three months, and accusing her brother-in-law of the crime, Jonathann Daval confessed to having strangled Alexia at their home, before putting on her sports clothes to make her believe in a disappearance during his morning jog.
