US President Joe Biden wants to make all information related to the assassination of former President John F. Kennedy publicly available to the greatest possible extent, according to White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre. That is why Biden has published more than 12,000 previously kept secret documents. For security reasons, other documents are currently under lock and key, but this is also set to change in the future for parts of them.

Numerous documents on this case were already published in December 2021. According to the National Archives, 97 percent of the roughly five million pages in the file are now accessible to all. According to Biden, the withholding of the remaining documents is a necessary measure to prevent damage to military defenses, intelligence operations, the order of the security forces or foreign policy.

The assassination

On November 22, 1963, John F. Kennedy was shot in an open car in Dallas, Texas. The Democratic politician died at the age of just 46.

The investigations came to the conclusion that assassin Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. Just two days after Kennedy’s assassination, Oswald himself was also shot. To this day, there are countless conspiracy theories surrounding the assassination attempt on the former US President. Experts are hoping for new insights from the documents.
