President Emmanuel Macron received, Tuesday at the Elysée, the parents of Lola, a 12-year-old schoolgirl murdered in Paris on October 14. Faced with collective indignation, Emmanuel Macron knows that the slightest clumsiness in this affair could further inflame the already very tense political context.

Do not miss the shock and the emotion. This is the objective of the executive, after the atrocious murder of Lola, the 12-year-old schoolgirl whose body was found in a trunk in the 19th arrondissement of Paris. The main suspect had the obligation to leave the territory but the administrative decision was not executed at the end of the 30-day period given to her to leave.

A fact that makes the subject political. During questions to the government this Tuesday at the National Assembly, the Republicans and the National Rally were upwind. Faced with the reactions, the executive is indignant and castigates a recovery of “the far right”. And to try to extinguish the controversy over the weakness of his reaction, Lola’s parents were received yesterday at the Elysée.

“Condolences and Support”

The last time Emmanuel Macron welcomed bereaved relatives was two years ago, to receive those of Samuel Paty. The president therefore wanted to meet Lola’s parents who were accompanied this Tuesday at the start of the afternoon by their brothers and sisters. The Head of State, accompanied by his wife Brigitte Macron, offered them his condolences and assured them of his full support.

The first lady, who rarely speaks on current issues, had on Monday described the crime as “abominable”.

Help parents in their administrative procedures

Gérald Darmanin, too, was present. The Minister of the Interior had already had Lola’s parents on the phone several times in recent days. His entourage specifies that he is committed to helping them in their administrative procedures, first, to recover the body of the teenager as quickly as possible so that a funeral can be held, but also to help them move away. from Paris, where they no longer want to live since the tragedy.

Faced with the political and media frenzy, an adviser to the Ministry of the Interior also stresses that Lola’s family does not want any demonstrations and no attempt at recovery.
