Murder of Lola: the mayor of Lyon calls for the dissolution of “Remparts”, a far-right structure


Several hundred people marched through the streets of Lyon after Lola’s murder. The mayor of Lyon denounces the “Remparts” organization behind this rally.

The EELV mayor of Lyon Grégory Doucet wrote to President Macron on Monday to ask for the “immediate dissolution” of the “Battlements“, a structure inheriting from the dissolved far-right association “Identity generationafter a rally in memory of Lola marked by xenophobic slogans.

In this letter sent to AFP, the mayor deplores “an unacceptable upsurgeof acts of violence claimed by the far right since September and affirms its “strong will to act” versus “those who incite hatred and demonstrate violent and anti-republican behavior“. The elected official denounces in particular the “political recoveryof the murder of Lola, with a demonstration which gathered 100 to 150 people Friday evening in the center of Lyon, according to the prefecture.

According to Mr. Doucet, this demonstration was claimed by an activist identifying himself on social networks as part of “Ramparts Lyon“. His letter underlines the links of this structure with Génération identitaire, an ultra-right movement pleading for the “defense” of the European identity dissolved in March 2021. Videos on social networks, in particular on the Twitter account of “Battlements“, show hooded people shouting”murderous immigrants“, with a banner”Justice for Lola, immigration kills“.

Explaining that he had already alerted the Ministers of the Interior Gérald Darmanin and of Justice Éric Dupond-Moretti, Grégory Doucet asks “the immediate dissolution of the Remparts“. It also calls forpermanently close» the associative bar «The Traboule“Known as a stronghold of those nostalgic for Génération Identitaire and the gym”The Agoge” which presents itself as “the first identity sports hall in France“.

Contacted by AFP, the Rhône prefecture claimed to be “extremely vigilant about the activities of small groupsfrom the extreme right. The prefect of the Rhône also made a report to the prosecutor of Lyon concerning “xenophobic and hate speechheld during the undeclared demonstration on Friday, according to the same source. Generation Z Lyon, the Lyon section of Eric Zemmour’s movement, also tweeted, with the hashtag #francocide, a photo of this demonstration, with a sign titled “The state no longer protects our children, wake up!»
