Murena launches v2 of its /e/OS interface

The first version of the /e/OS operating system dates back to 2022. Founded in 2018 by Norman Gaël Duval, the Murena company has created software dedicated to smartphones which aims to allow users to maintain control of their private lives. Concretely, it is an open source system based on Android, but lacking GMS, the Google Mobile Services of which the Huawei brand was deprived in 2019. As the company is not financed by the collection of data, its OS does not include any trackers, unlike Android or iOS.

With the release of /e/OS v2, Murena continues its commitment to digital privacy by offering users a series of improvements:

• Bliss Launcher 3: a new version of the launcher, inspired by that of Apple, intended to be more fluid and intuitive.

• Advanced Privacy: a widget allowing users to hide their IP address or location, in order to block data leaks from third-party apps and the Web. Murena also promises a significant reduction in the number of advertisements.

• Extensive compatibility with mobile applications: from Play services to F-droid applications and PWAs, the majority of apps can be downloaded via the /e/OS App Lounge.

• Improved camera: the new version of the Camera app now includes the reading of QR codes, it is no longer necessary to go through a risky application.

/e/OS is a free and open source operating system for smartphones whose aim is to compete with Google’s Android. You can install it on Android compatible smartphones.

The /e/OS v2 update is already available to users, with Murena bringing forward more than 250 compatible smartphone models, including its own terminals. The company also provides a cloud hosted on the Old Continent with an email address, an office suite and up to 2 TB of storage from €1.99/month.
