As announced by the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, on April 29, the shift in the curfew schedule from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. from Wednesday June 9 is accompanied, for cinemas, for shows and concerts, an enlargement of the gauges: instead of one in three seats, two out of three seats can now be occupied (within the limit of 5,000 people). For events held outdoors, the public will be able to reach 5,000 people, in a seated configuration, instead of 1,000 previously, with a gauge rising to 65% of their maximum capacity. For museums, the number of square meters per visitor halved, from 8 m2 at 4 m2. Wearing a mask remains compulsory.
These new rules will allow films to be released under favorable conditions. Chloé Zhao’s feature film Nomadland, distinguished by two Oscars (best film and best female interpretation for Frances McDormand), in theaters from June 9, will benefit from a better exposure than the films programmed since the deconfinement. “We find the real evening screening which begins at 8 pm and which represents 40% of cinema attendance”, rejoiced Marc-Olivier Sebbag, General Delegate of the National Federation of French Cinemas.
Reopening of medium-sized rooms
In the so-called current music sector (pop-rock, song, electro, rap, etc.), the large venues, including the seventeen zeniths spread across the region, with capacities of 6,000 to 12,000 seats, the arenas, including the AccorHotels Arena in Paris (20,000 seats) or the Tony-Garnier hall in Lyon (17,000 seats), will not resume their season until September. The Zénith de Paris will be slightly ahead of its colleagues, with the arrival of the American group Bon Iver scheduled for August 26.
With regard to medium-sized rooms, with reception capacities of approximately 1,000 to 4,500 places, the shift of the curfew to 11 pm and the increase in reception capacities have enabled a few places to reopen their doors. In most cases, the health pass (complete vaccination schedule, negative test beforehand, certificate of recovery from the Covid) will be required. The Dôme de Paris-Palais des sports, which can accommodate up to 5,000 people standing, maintains the concerts of Kendji Girac and Alain Souchon, in a seated configuration. The most famous Parisian venue in the world, the Olympia, will host the two evenings of the Les Inrocks festival on June 10 and 11, Kid Francescoli on the 17th and Louis Chedid on the 26th. La Cigale will receive Rover on the 10th, Hervé on the 14th, Keren Ann on the 17th. But here, as in most of these medium-sized venues (Le Liberté in Rennes, The Aircraft in Lille, the Summum in Grenoble, L’Athanor in Montluçon, Les Arènes in Metz, etc.), many concerts are planned in June remain canceled or postponed and the season is not expected to resume until September.
