(Reuters) – Elon Musk, the new owner of Twitter, said on Friday the social network had suffered a “massive” drop in revenue due to pressure from “activists” on advertisers.

The multi-billionaire, who took control of the company last week, added that the drop in revenue came “while nothing has changed in terms of content moderation and we have done everything we can to appease the activists”.

“Extremely twisted! They are trying to destroy free speech in America,” he wrote on Twitter.

When it last published its financial results in July, Twitter, then listed on Wall Street, explained the drop in its turnover by the impact of the takeover project presented by Elon Musk and the deterioration of the market. digital advertising.

Elon Musk said last month that he wanted to see Twitter become “the most respected advertising platform”.

But several large groups, including General Motors, General Mills and Audi, have already interrupted the distribution of advertisements on the social network.
