DFB international Anton moves to BVB

German national football player Waldemar Anton is moving from Stuttgart to Dortmund. The central defender has signed a four-year contract with the Champions League finalists until June 2028 – and is following in big footsteps.

The transfer of the sought-after national football player Waldemar Anton to Borussia Dortmund is complete. On Monday, BVB announced the signing of the 27-year-old central defender, who comes from VfB Stuttgart and has a contract until June 30, 2028. The Stuttgart team had already confirmed that Anton would be leaving VfB.

The contract of the European Championship participant with the Swabians was valid until summer 2027. Anton had only signed it in the spring, and BVB now used an exit clause that, according to media reports, is worth 22 million euros. In Dortmund, the first new signing of the transfer period is to replace Mats Hummels, whose contract was not extended.

“I originally had no intention of changing clubs – but then Borussia Dortmund came along. A top club that had just reached the Champions League final,” said Anton, who was on the field when the national team was knocked out of the European Championship quarter-finals by Spain: “That shows what potential this club has. From the very beginning, everyone in charge at BVB gave me the feeling that they really wanted to sign me and that I could and should play an important role. I’m really looking forward to that.”

Lars Ricken was particularly pleased that Anton had chosen BVB despite “first-class national and international transfer options”. Anton had “developed into a top defender in the Bundesliga, both in terms of sport and personality, and recently led his club into the Champions League,” said Dortmund’s sporting director.
