MWC 2022 – Huawei MateStation: an all-in-one PC with a modern and refined design that stands as a competitor to the iMac

In addition to its new MateBook E 2-in-1 PC and its high-end ultraportable MateBook X Pro, Huawei also presented its first all-in-one PC. 4K screen, AMD 5800H processor, the computer has it all, on paper anyway.

Huawei intends to hunt on Apple land and, this time, it is the iMac which is directly targeted. In addition to confirming the release of two new computers, the MateBook X Pro and the small hybrid Oled MateBook E, the manufacturer also unveiled the MateStation, an all-in-one computer with a modern and refined design.

This type of PC has several advantages: those who do not want to take the lead in looking for a desktop computer in addition to a monitor will appreciate this choice, especially since they will save space since the components are directly integrated in the foot of the screen and not in a separate tower. Here, an audio system is also present, enough to complete the set and have nothing more to buy, not even a keyboard and a mouse since these are provided.

Sleek design and premium display

At first glance, the MateStation X reveals exemplary finishes: the aluminum design is sober, and the ultrathin edges of the screen are really appreciable, especially since the 3/2 format dear to Huawei (and Microsoft in particular) offers a much larger display than the classic 16/9. The 28.6-inch 4K+ (3840 x 2560 pixels) touchscreen appears to be a good compromise between the 27 and 32 inches. The brand announces a delta E of less than 1 – which we will be sure to check – but Huawei offers very well calibrated PC panels in general. In any case, the screen swivels easily, even if it cannot be raised or lowered.

A powerful processor

We will find in the wide aluminum foot of this MateStation a very powerful AMD Ryzen 7 5800H processor, accompanied by 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of SSD. Enough to satisfy many users, but probably not the most demanding creators who might need 32 GB of RAM for example. It is also a pity not to see Ryzen 6000 here, which are however in the process of arriving on the market, but the marketing in China in January did not allow us to take advantage of it.

On the sides, the connection is not very provided with only two USB-C ports and two USB-A ports. If necessary, it will be necessary to complete everything with a USB hub, but it is ultimately less annoying on a workstation than on a laptop.

Finally few ports are present.

The connectors and the Power button.

A seemingly complete audio system

Huawei has integrated two speakers and a woofer at the bottom of the stand, as well as four microphones for video conferencing. Although it is impossible for us to give a precise opinion on the quality of the audio system, as the hubbub of the living room affects listening, it seems to have a good reserve of power and offers very present bass. Only a test in our audio lab will allow us to judge it with a good ear.

The MateStation X will be available in France over the next few months at an indicative price of €2,199.
