MWC 2024: with its smoother and brighter screen, the Honor Pad 9 does not escape a price increase

Even though the tablet market looks dull, Honor don’t give up. Unthinkable for the Chinese brand to hold a conference at Mobile World Congress without bringing a new slate back in your suitcases.

As it inaugurates the launch of the 2024 edition of the major Barcelona show, Honor unveils (in addition to the highly anticipated Magic 6 Pro) the Pad 9: a new mid-range tablet that has everything you need, where it’s necessary.

A technical sheet pulled up

Unveiled at IFA 2022, the Honor Pad 8 presented itself as a balanced tablet, offering very honest services for its price of €299. Will the Pad 9 be able to do the same despite a price that rises to €399?

Looking at the technical sheet more closely, we would be tempted to answer in the affirmative. What do you want, we are weak in the face of a screen that goes from 60 to 120 Hz – even if it remains LCD type. Barely larger than that of its predecessor (12.1″ versus 12″), the panel is above all announced as brighter, with 500 nits in typical use (in any case, it is not HDR compatible).

Still on the screen side, we appreciate that the definition also takes a leap forward. From 2000×1200 pixels (5:3 ratio) we now go to 2560 x 1600 pixels (16:10 ratio). If we do the math, this gives us a larger, smoother, brighter and sharper screen. Well worth €100, right?

Increased performance and autonomy

That’s not all. As you can imagine, the rest of the technical sheet follows the trend. And we notice in fact that the weight of the tablet increases from 520 grams to 555 grams on this new model. The reason ? A much higher capacity battery (8300 mAh compared to 7250 mAh). Enough to make the viewing experience even more comfortable.

To complete the picture, the Honor Pad 9 adopts the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chip, a mid-range chip that we found not so long ago in the surprising Honor Magic 6 Lite. What augurs a smooth navigation experience, and even rather capable of playing in acceptable conditions.

We could also focus on saying that the rear camera goes from 5 Mpx to 13 Mpx here, but that would be admitting that people take photos with their tablet. Let’s just conclude by saying that the tablet will only be available in one color (gray) and in a configuration including 8 GB of RAM for 256 GB of storage.
