My ten tips for dressing when you’ve gained belly

Chronicle – Sophie Kune, creator of the Instagram account @menopause.stories. is our guest in our new meeting around the menopause and all the upheavals it generates. In this fourth article, she gives her tips for how to camouflage a belly that has grown.

Excerpt from my last conversation with my friend Céline, about her look and her belly that swells like a brioche fresh out of the oven.

Céline: “Sophie, I’ve had one of those stomachs lately! Honestly, this thing is hell. I feel like I’m four months pregnant! Result, it’s depression in my dressing room I don’t know how to dress anymore. You wouldn’t have some clothing advice to share so that my morale goes up in speed? »
Me: With pleasure, Céline. Are you ready ?
Here are my 10 tips, to then distribute only to your best friends.
Lets’ go !

Take care to choose the right lingerie

Tip number 1 : take care to choose the right lingerie. The high-waisted panties, flat stomach, sculpting, shaping, without visible seams, designed in stretch material… Your panties must remain invisible, no matter what clothes you wear. It must also marry your curves while sheathing them. It is the same for your tights whose demarcation we absolutely must not guess. Choose the lingerie in which you feel comfortable, this is my basic principle which does not exclude that it can be sexy and feminine.

Tip number 2 : Treat yourself to clothes that fit you. Neither too tight nor too wide, and above all not too tight, they should fit you like a glove. I see you from here rushing to the “maternity” section of the big brands. My Céline, I tell you loud and clear, you are not pregnant, your face is simply changing. Once you have purchased your clothes, go to the retoucher who will adjust your outfit as needed. You’ll see, you him and tell me thank you.

Tip number 3 : Favors fine and supple fabrics. Fluid materials are ideal for camouflaging small bulges.

Do you like pants? Why don’t you try on the dresses?

Tip number 4 : Do you like pants? Why don’t you try on the dresses ? To choose in fluid materials once again, they have the advantage of not breaking the silhouette while being feminine. In addition, you have the choice between several models: draped or peplum. The draped shape, just like the peplum shape will suit you if you have a “small belly”. On the other hand, if you judge that your belly is too plump, do not favor these cuts which would have the disadvantage of emphasizing this part of your anatomy. In any case, whether you opt for a draped model or a peplum model, wear a flat stomach effect girdle to refine your silhouette.

Tip number 5 : concerning the tops, choose the vertical striped ones, with chest pockets to restore visual balance. Add a stole on the shoulders, a brooch, an accessory so that the gaze is on your face and presto, voila. In the same vein, opt for beautiful necklines or tops designed from materials that are not too fluid but with bare shoulders if the outside temperature allows it of course. Highlighting the beauty of your bust, they will give your look a wow effect. No one will think to take a look at your belly, not even you

Tip number 6: set your sights on jackets worn open, long (which arrive below the hips), single-breasted so as not to weigh down your silhouette. Combined with tops or flowing dresses, they are ideal to give the flat stomach effect you are looking for.

On the pants side, fall for a straight and unmarked waist cut.

Tip number 7 : on the pants side, fall for a straight and unmarked waist cut. On the jeans side, choose high-waisted ones and favor models containing 2 to 3% elastane (especially not more to prevent the material from stretching too much) for more comfort.

Tip number 8 : Prefer dark colors for clothes that cover your upper body and light colors for the bottom. Here, everything is a matter of the play of light and you already know it, the dark thins while the light attracts and amplifies.

Tip number 9 : As we are approaching the end of the year celebrations, I would advise you to avoid satiny, shiny materials, sequined or sequined tops unless you are wearing a flat stomach sheath which really erases your curves. If you want to add sparkle to your Céline life, think more about make-up than clothing that could weigh down the top of your figure.

Tip number 10 : Wear heels and if you can, wear high heels. Remember how Hollywood stars look and walk. Not to mention the glam effect, the heels give curves and lengthen the silhouette.

Here is my dear Céline my best advice to erase the rounded belly effect.
Tried and approved by me (I have a belly too in case you haven’t noticed), they have helped me feel good in my clothes and spruce up my wardrobe. How about a shopping spree now?

Céline: wait for Sophie, are we calling the friends to join us?
Many of us don’t know how to dress during menopause. I’m sure many will join us.

Sophie: Ok my Céline, one last thing before playing “Pretty Woman”, don’t forget that you are and remain beautiful, sexy and desirable.
Let’s go now, a beautiful day awaits us.
