The mysterious attack, perpetrated 48 hours before the first round of the presidential election, electrified the executive.
Firstly because the attack was committed in Toulouse, the scene of the killings of the terrorist Mohamed Merah and whose tenth anniversary the Republic commemorated last month. Then, because it targeted a sanctuary of the Catholic Church, already bereaved by an Islamist squad in Nice that killed three people on October 29, 2020 in the Notre-Dame de l’Assomption basilica and by the assassination of Father Hamel, the July 26, 2016, in his church in Saint-Étienne-du-Rouvray.
