Bayern youngster has to cancel his DFB debut

In a completely surprising move, national coach Julian Nagelsmann nominated Bayern youngster Aleksandar Pavlovic. But the 19-year-old’s DFB debut has been delayed: he has to cancel the international matches against France and the Netherlands due to tonsillitis.

Without newcomer Aleksandar Pavlovic, but with the returnees Toni Kroos and Manuel Neuer, Julian Nagelsmann has started the hot phase of preparation for the European Championship. At the first session of the March course, the national coach welcomed 25 players to the Frankfurt campus of the German Football Association (DFB) – only Pavlovic from Bayern Munich was missing.

According to the DFB, the 19-year-old will not be able to play the entire game due to tonsillitis. Nagelsmann does not want to re-nominate Pavlovic’s Munich colleague Leon Goretzka, for example. That means there are still five newcomers in his squad. Pavlovic will have to wait a while for his next chance. The last test matches before the home European Championships will take place on June 3rd (8.45 p.m./ARD and in the ntv.de live ticker) in Nuremberg against Ukraine and on June 7th (8.45 p.m./RTL and in the ntv.de live ticker) against Greece in Mönchengladbach.

Otherwise, the day with the national team is all about the new jerseys from supplier adidas. Kroos, who will be there for the first time since the 2021 European Championship and will speak at the press conference at 1 p.m., had already given away the white home shirt and the hotly debated pink-purple away shirt to fans on Monday evening at the Gutenberg monument in the city center.

The 2014 world champion should play a key role when Nagelsmann arrives before the international matches in France (Saturday, 9 p.m./ZDF and in the live ticker at ntv.de) and against the Netherlands (Tuesday, March 26th, 8:45 p.m./RTL and in the live ticker at ntv.de) forms his European Championship team. This will probably also include Neuer: it is expected that the long-standing goalkeeper will be number one again after a forced break of one and a half years. The newcomers, however, can apply: Stuttgart’s Maximilian Mittelstädt, Waldemar Anton and Deniz Undav, as well as Maximilian Beier from TSG Hoffenheim and Jan-Niklas Beste from 1. FC Heidenheim.
