MOSCOW (Reuters) – The death toll from the explosion and fire that occurred last Monday in a fuel depot in Nagorno-Karabakh stands at 170, according to a new count from local authorities cited Friday by the Armenpress agency.

The tragedy occurred as thousands of Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh fled the enclave after the defeat of local separatist forces against the Azerbaijani army.

The previous report, Tuesday evening, reported 68 deaths.

Emergency operations continue at the site.

The separatist capitulation caused a mass exodus of the Armenian population from Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia.

According to the Armenian government cited by the Russian agency RIA, nearly 90,000 people had crossed the border on Friday morning.
