We currently have plenty of time to paint our fingernails – but how? Ute Lipsdorf, trainer at alessandro, reveals the biggest nail polish trends in 2021.

Frosty vs. friendly

When it's cold outside, this is not only reflected in our wardrobe. It will also be icy on our fingernails: "In winter, frosted colors are trendy. Frosty tones, for example in blue or rosé. However, everything without shimmer or effects," explains Ute Lipsdorf.

In general, the nail polish trends in 2021 are also based on the trend colors of the year. Means: Gray and yellow (especially in combination) are also allowed on our fingernails this year. "You are welcome to use both colors on one nail," advises Ute Lipsdorf.

Chromatic

Looks like a lot, but it's actually really simple: Chrome Nails. With the right equipment and know-how, this variant is actually one of the easiest that we can do at home.

Chrome was a huge issue years ago and is back now. For example, there are sticks that you can use to go over the nail polish yourself. The whole thing is then sealed with a top coat.

It is important that the nail polish is almost dry before you rub the chrome pigments into the varnish with the sticks (alternatively you can use chrome powder and an eye shadow applicator).

Minimal nail art

We almost didn't believe it, but nail art is more trendy than ever. Because: "People now have a lot of time, we are all at home," says Ute Lipsdorf. We use the time to conjure up small works of art on our nails. Whether it will work out the way we imagine is another story …

For very simple nail art, the expert: "I randomly set a few points in the wet or not hardened lacquer with a toothpick. Then I drive a horizontal figure eight through the color points with the toothpick. Do not stir as if you were making a cake to bake."

Alternatively, the whole thing also works with a standing figure eight or a clef – this results in a different marbling in each case. Important to know: Normal nail polishes have the disadvantage that they dry very quickly in the air, UV varnish is a little easier because it only dries under the lamp.
