(Reuters) – Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi will travel to Taiwan on Tuesday where she will spend the night, Taiwanese media reported on Monday.
China has warned that its military will “not sit idly by” if Nancy Pelosi goes to Taiwan, which Beijing considers a renegade province.
According to the Taiwanese newspaper Liberty Times, Nancy Pelosi will visit the Parliament on Wednesday morning before continuing her trip to Asia.
The United Daily News said officials were due to welcome Nancy Pelosi when she arrives, scheduled for Tuesday evening.
Contacted, the Taiwanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs declined to comment.
