After attacks targeting bus drivers, public transport is suspended this Wednesday in Nancy, announced the urban transport network. Following these attacks, around ten drivers exercised their right to withdraw at dawn on Wednesday when they started service and Keolis preferred to suspend the entire service.

Public transport was suspended on Wednesday in Nancy after attacks targeting bus drivers, announced the urban transport network. “In connection with the two recent attacks on drivers and to ensure the safety of staff, services are suspended across the entire network for the entire day,” announced Réseau Stan, a subsidiary of Keolis, on the social network “Resumption of traffic on Thursday”.

Right of withdrawal

A spokesperson for Keolis Grand Nancy told AFP that a driver was injured on Tuesday in the brow bone after emergency braking to avoid a pedestrian. After spitting on the vehicle, the latter boarded the bus and hit the driver, the spokesperson reported. “We asked drivers to raise their anti-aggression window” which separates them from passengers, she added. On Saturday, a driver returning his bus to the depot had a confrontation with a motorist who hit his vehicle with a hammer. The employee was not injured but was very shocked, according to the spokesperson.

Following these attacks, around ten drivers exercised their right to withdraw at dawn on Wednesday when they started service and Keolis preferred to suspend the entire service. “We will no longer tolerate this violent behavior,” wrote the UST Keolis Grand Nancy union in a press release, calling on agents who wish to withdraw. In a press release, the Métropole du Grand Nancy (MGN) “expresses its support to the drivers concerned” and takes note of “their decision to suspend” the service.
