On Friday September 1, 2023, the Ligue 1 football match took place between FC Nantes and Olympique de Marseille at the Beaujoire stadium. Alicia Mahé, her husband and their 6-year-old son, who was going to a stadium for the first time, were seated in the Océane stand to watch the match. From the fourth minute, the little boy celebrated the opener for the Marseille team. This triggered the anger of a small group of Nantes supporters installed a few meters away in the Loire stand, separated by a grid. Asked by BFM TV Sunday September 3, 2023, the mother said: “We showed that we were happy. It was then that we suffered an outpouring of violence from certain individuals who were in the stand next door, the Loire stand. We were insulted, we were spat on. We received cups of beer. I found out afterwards that we had been urinated on. Some showed their sex. Without any steward intervention“. The father of the family tried to intervene before collapsing, victim of a heart attack just before half-time. Taken care of by the rescuers, he was hospitalized in intensive care at the Nantes University Hospital.
Some “idiots got no respect”
The nightmare continued for the family of Alicia Mahé, who recounted the horror evening on his account X [anciennement Twitter] Saturday, September 2, 2023. “[Mon époux] was positioned next to the fence. He received the full force of the flood of insults. We wanted to kick him through the fence. He got angry to defend his wife and son”told the young mother to our colleagues from BFM TV. “My husband, wanting to defend his family, had a heart attack in the gallery. And there again some idiots had no respect: selfies in front of the ambulance, insults again”, she denounced on social networks. The 29-year-old was picked up by a firefighter who was watching the game. During his evacuation by ambulance, the father of the family had a second cardiac arrest. “Thank you to the incompetent stewards who did nothing because it was not their stand”lamented Alicia Mahé at BFM TV. Saturday September 2, 2023, the thirties were better. “He is recovering somehow, he has no memory of what happened”, said his wife. Solicited by 20 minutes, FC Nantes condemned “with the greatest firmness the unacceptable violence”. The CCTV images are being analyzed, “a complaint will be filed on Monday”said the club.
